New iPhone Worm Reported by an ISP in Holland

IPHONE News | Monday November 23 2009 2:08 pm | No Comments, yet. YOUR thoughts are welcome

A new worm has been reportedly spreading into the wild on iPhones that has been jailbroken. The worm attempts to make to many connections and report status to the bad guys to provide control. The main issue currently caused by the worm is resetting the root password, if it was set to default and preventing iPhone users from gaining control back, according to XS4ALL. The worm also tags infected devices with a unique ID number.

An advisory from XS4ALL states “A number of customers with jailbroken phones have been found running unknown software on their phones which is trying to compromise other iPhone users at other telecommunications providers,”

So, how do you know if you are hit? The only noticeable impact to the average iPhone user is the battery life. As the worm is very active when connected to wi-fi hotspots, it attempts to make to many connections to potentially spread to other devices draining the battery down.

What to do if your iPhone is infected? This may not go down well with users who spent money and time to jailbreak their iPhone, but the only known way to get ride of the worm is to reset the iPhone using iTunes. Devices reset via iTunes will not be broken again.

What if you are not infected? Reset you root password quick and disable your wi-fi connection if it’s not used. There is nothing more that says “hack me” then a poor device password and continuously unused Bluetooth and wi-fi on.

IPHONE News | Monday October 12 2009 9:31 pm | Comments (1)

If you are one of those who has been waiting for a jail breaker to be available for iPhone 3.1.2 before upgrading, now it’s time.

This time it appears that the developer has made the jailbreak available only on windows. You can download it here. Be aware though that jail breaking is hit and miss, so make sure you backup as if this go wrong, you may end up with brick!

This is what blackra1n.com has to say:

So, what is blackra1n? blackra1n is a 30 second ALL device 3.1.2 jailbreak. Even the ipt3, but the ipt3 is tethered. In order to boot it, just rerun blackra1n. As far as donations go, they are much appreciated, but not until after blackra1n works for you. I never ask for donations before the tool is released.

Warning 3g and 3gs unlockers, do not upgrade to 3.1.2 using iTunes if you want to keep your unlock. Baseband cannot be downgraded. Check out the dev team’s offerings. Also blackra1n doesn’t hacktivate.

From the patent filing

The speech recognition module can analyze the speech data to derive text data, the text data comprising sequence information associated with each of a plurality of words associated with the speech data. The text composition module can receive the text data and combine the text data with the non-speech data based upon the sequence information. The text composition module can thereby produce combined text data derived from the text data and the non-speech data. The interface can transmit the combined text data to the mobile device for presentation to a user of the mobile device.
