McAfee and Symantec on a battle for iTunes store
Will it be iVirusScan for your iPhone or iNorton Antivirus? or maybe an iEncryption software? or perhaps something else. It’s unclear what the two security giants will bring to the iPhone, but both have confirmed that they will be making apps for the iPhone. Reuters talked to McAfee CEO David DeWalt who said that McAfee is developing new software for the iPhone, but no details on what exactly or when it’s going to hit the market. “We are working on a much more comprehensive suite for the Apple family,” McAfee CEO David DeWalt said. Besides antivirus software, McAfee also sells products for Web Filtering, Data Encryption and Data Loss Prevention.
Symantec is also working on software for the iPhone, but won’t be making traditional security solutions. Instead it’s looking to create backup software service to store and access data in a computer or the web. Probably competing with Apple’s own MobileMe service.
Although there hasn’t been any reported threats of virus outbreaks on iPhone OS, but the since the iPhone becomes a device able to run over 40k apps and games, it prehaps only a matter of time where hackers and virus writers began targetting this platform, if not already coding!
