iPhone OS 3.1 Beta released to developers

Apple has realsed a new Beta of of the iPhone 3.1 OS along with software development kit. This released is intended to improve the functionality of iPhone 3GS Video, MMS Messaging and speech recognition.

According to Endgadget Mobile, iPhone 3.1 beta lets iPhone 3GS users save a copy of video clips taken with the device so that portions aren’t lost when editing video. (more…)

Reports of Poor Battery with iPhone 3GS and OS 3.0

A few complains started showing up in Apple’s forum with iPhone users reporting poor battery performance. The issue appears to be triggered by the iPhone OS 3.0.

“After updating to [iPhone] 3.0 the battery life is very short. It consumes 5%-10% an hour.

Apple: no support for jailbreaking iPhone 3GS

iPhone 3G JailbreakingApple has recently made it clear that any jailbroken iPhone 3GS will not be supported, under it terms of service. The key paragraph says:

“…Use constitutes acceptance of Apple’s software license agreement and third-party terms located in the iPhone box. Unauthorized modification of your iPhone software violates the software license agreement. Inability to use an iPhone due to unauthorized modifications is not covered under your warranty.” (more…)

iPhone 3rd-gen parts available at Chinese wholesaler

An online Chinese store is offering what looks like the next generation of Apple iPhone expected July 17 as per a previous post. The print screen on the side shows LCD display and bezel parts, which casts doubts of the rumours that the next iPhone will have an OLD screen. The speakers seems to have been moved up the fascia of the handset. The parts also show the difference between the current and the 3rd-gen LCD connections.iPhone 3rd-Gen Chinese PartsHowever, other rumours suggests that Apple is probably planning 3 version of the new iPhone, including one that will be available for the Chinese market. In which case, the LCD display could be for some and not all versions.

Specs and release date of iPhone 3.0 revealed

iphone-3g-os-301OLED display, twice the processing power, a 50 per cent better in battery life, and a rubber-backed body with a light-up Apple logo on the back is what looks like on the menu for iPhone 3.0.

According to AppAdvice.com, which appears to have sourced the information from someone “closely connected to Apple’s hardware development team”, the release date for iPhone 3.0 is set to be 17th July.

Many details of what the source has revealed are what already has been predicts and discussed recently including a 3.2-megapixel camera with in-phone video editing, a built-in FM transmitter and digital compass, enhanced location services, video and still-photo MMS, and a top capacity of 32GB. The full list includes:

* 32GB and 16GB to replace current capacities
* $199 and $299 price-points to be maintained
* 3.2 Megapixel camera
* Video recording & editing capabilities
* Ability to send a picture & video via MMS

Hey Mr. Dev, Apple needs your help

Apple recently emailed registred developers requesting participation to test the new app dubbed Association Press which is designed to provide Push Notification to iPhone devices. The app has been been designed to work on the latest  iPhone OS 3.0 Beta 5. During the test period, push notifications where real news will be sent to iPhone devices participating in the program will be for US English only. Here is the full email:
