Trapster(R), your iPhone alerts you as you approach police speed traps, red light cameras, and other kinds of traps. It’s a high tech way to do the same thing people have been doing for years with CB radios and flashing headlights at other drivers to warn them of a speed trap ahead. Fierce competition driving cheaper apps

itunes-app_storeThe number of apps available for iPhone and iPod touch in iTunes store has exceeded 40,000 at the end of April 09. With every developer or company trying to get as many sales as possible, some will eventually drop price. There are already many available for free. This has been somehow backup by a recent report on App Store from Distimo, which is a new ducth company in the crowded mobile market. The report contains some interesting findings that seem to relate apps pricing and its ranking.

Distimo aims to release market-wide data on all Smartphones apps stores (Blackberry, Palm, Android..etc) on a monthly bases. There will be broad report on the US market for free and another one with more insight on worldwide markets for a charge. The first full report of Apple store is available for download here.

iPhone apps store has an app for almost anything that comes to mind, but does it have an app to keep track of them all? or maybe give the best ones per category? or perhaps the Top Ten news, music, video and other matters? frequently updated online? This is where the idea of Top-Ten app for iPhone and iPod touch was born.

Top-Tens allows users to track and monitor different types of Top 10 lists which are constantly updated, including Movies, Books, Music, Online Deals, Computer Viruses, Product Recalls, and many more.

Turn Your iPhone Into a Web Server, Free!

FreeBit Co.Ltd is a new Japanese company that recently released an iPhone app able to turn an iPhone into a web server. The app in question, named ServersMan, is being released to provide “Personal Data Center”. FeeBit also has video with additional information on server-enabling your iPhone. Once the app is installed, systems on the internet can access the iPhone to upload/download files using a brower through webDAV protocl. The app works as a Web server, storage with added “security” by Emotion Link Technology.

A PC can connect directly to the iPhone if both on the same network. If they are on separate networks, the FreeBit’s VPN software will initiate the connection.

the_world_factbook_09I just stumbled across what looks like a cherry picked list of how you can make your iPhone a useful learning kit. The iPhone intruguing interface and features allowed for an extensive list of apps to be on-demand. I think the original idea came from Nintedo pushing for a gamer platform that can be used for self-learning, but it was inevitable that it will be on the iPhone too, only more apps!

The categories include Literature, Arts, Foreign Languages, Travel, Science, Medicine, Math, Nature, Christian Studies and Reference Materials. Full list if available here

eBay CEO,  John Donahoe speaking at a retail sector conference in Barcelona, reported on Wednesday that around 10% of all owners of an Apple iPhone or iPod Touch have downloaded the recently launched application that allows the popular gadgets to run Skype, EBay Inc.

According to AppleInsider, The free application named myWireless Mobile, is intended to supplement its popular web-based myWireless portal that’s used by millions of subscribers looking to review their monthly statements, usage statistics and make changes to their plans.

The password-authenticated application can also be used to browse, change and easily add features to a wireless account, as well as update payment information and download monthly bills in PDF format.
